New York, NY - July 20, 2014 - Senator Ken LaValle invites all students up to the 8th grade to join the NY Senate’s 2014 Summer Reading Program. The Senate program, conducted in conjunction with the NY State Library, is designed to help children continue to build their reading skills during the summer months.
Senator LaValle said, “This program is intended to reinforce lessons learned during the school year; keep young minds sharp during the time away from school; and challenge children to continue to learn. It’s my hope that many students take advantage of the program.”
Students maintain an on-line reading journal to keep track of their progress throughout the summer. Parents and guardians can utilize the website to track children's summer reading activity and share that progress with friends, family, and other parents.
Students submitting a completed journal will receive a Summertime Reading certificate from Senator LaValle recognizing their accomplishment. Register on-line by visiting Senator LaValle’s website: SenatorLaValle.com and clicking on the “Summer Reading Program”.
