Home Health Aide Charged with Holding Elderly Oceanside Victims at Knifepoint, Cops Say

The Fourth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Queens woman for Unlawful Imprisonment that occurred on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 9:50 am in Oceanside.
 
According to detectives, a female, 28, who is employed as a home health aide, rang the doorbell at her male patient’s, 64, Oceanside residence multiple times. The patient’s wife, 68, opened the door and observed the subject armed with a large kitchen knife. The subject entered the house and the woman went to a neighbor’s house to call police.  
 
After she notified the police she returned to her residence to ensure her husband, 98 year old mother, and 94 year old father were safe. The subject waved the knife at the victims, locked the front door and told the victims they were not allowed to leave. The medical patient began to have difficulty breathing and the health aide began to question her patient’s severe medical condition.
 
Officers arrived on scene, located the subject and conducted a thorough investigation.  Cathy Thompson, 28, of Jamaica, N.Y., was arrested without incident.
 
Defendant Thompson is being charged with four (4) counts of Unlawful Imprisonment, four (4) counts of Menacing 2nd Degree,  Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree.  She will be arraigned when medically practical.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
