9th District Participates in School Supplies Drive for Disadvantaged Children
JULY 23, 2012, Central Islip, NY – In preparation for the 2013-2014 school year, the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless has partnered with Holiday Magic and Every Child’s Dream to sponsor the 2013 “Backpack Pirates” program.
The sponsors are collecting school supplies and new clothing items for children in need throughout Suffolk County. A group of local volunteers have organized a day full of fun, adventures, and learning. The 7th Annual Back Pack Pirates Summer Fest will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp in Riverhead. Hundreds of backpacks have been ordered. Now donations of school supplies are needed to fill them up.
Invitations to the Back Pack Pirates event will be distributed to needy children ages 5 to 18 at homeless and domestic violence shelters, local parish outreaches, and to families at Department of Labor sites across Suffolk County.
“I encourage the residents of the 9th Legislative District to continue to support this drive as they have done in the past,” said Montano. “The children will enjoy a day full of learning and adventure and walk away with the supplies they will need to be prepared to work hard during the upcoming school year.”
The deadline to collect the donations is Friday, August 23, 2012. Legislator Montano’s office, located at Courthouse Corporate Center, 320 Carleton Avenue, Suite 4300 in Central Islip, is currently accepting donations.
