Mastic Beach, NY, July 25, 2014 – William Floyd teachers, in collaboration with the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library, are once again offering the “Teachers’ Story Corner” during the summer where more than 40 teachers have signed up to take turns reading to area youth. The program, held each Friday through August 15, takes place in the library’s Children’s Department floor from 10 am to 11:30 am.

“This program helps to instill a love of literature for our students and shows them that reading can be a fun part of their lives,” said Wendy Gross, a kindergarten teacher at Tangier Smith Elementary School and co-organizer of the Teachers’ Story Corner. “It also helps the students keep their reading skills sharp for the upcoming school year.”

Both teachers and librarians also work with parents and students to help select age-appropriate books for reading at home. All pages read during the Teachers’ Story Corner count toward completion of summer reading clubs. The events are free and all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
