Former Diocese of Rockville Centre Employee Accused of Stealing Over $400K from Church Over 3 Years

Iris Gomez of East Islip, 39, is accused of the embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars from Seaford and Rockville Centre churches.

Iris Gomez of East Islip, 39, was was arraigned on Monday, July 24 on charges connected to the alleged embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars from Seaford and Rockville Centre churches that she had previously been employed at, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.
 
Gomez had been employed as an office assistant by the Diocese of Rockville Centre employee and the St. William the Abbot Roman Catholic Church, and over the course of three years she pilfered over $450,000 from the two organizations, according to officials.
 
She has been charged with the following:
  • Grand larceny in the second and third degree
  • Scheme to defraud
  • Criminal tax fraud in the third and fourth degree
  • Three counts of offering a false instrument for filing
Gomez pleaded not guilty to all charges, and is due back in court on Friday, August 18. If convicted, she faces up to three to 15 years in prison.
