AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. 14-Year-Old Pedestrian Critically Injured in Crash in Nesconset

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a female pedestrian in Nesconset on Sunday night.

Nesconset, NY - July 29th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a female pedestrian in Nesconset on Sunday night.

Natalie Maloney, 14, of Ronkonkoma was attempting to cross Nesconset Highway and Middle Country Road in Nesconset last night at approximately 11:40 p.m. when she was struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Domiciano Rubi, 64, of Brentwood.

Maloney was transported by Nesconset Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where she is listed in critical, but guarded, condition. Rubi and his passenger were not injured in the crash.

The Suburban was impounded for a safety inspection. The investigation is continuing. Anyone who may have any information regarding this crash is asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
