Inwood Man in Custody in Attempted Murder Charges After Allegedly Stabbing Man During Verbal Altercation

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of an Inwood man for an Assault that occurred on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 8:25 p.m. in Inwood.
 
According to detectives, officers responded to an Inwood residence for reports of an assault. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim, 34, lying on the front lawn with a sheet wrapped around his arm which was covered in blood. Officers located defendant Jose Antonio Cruz, 50, of 59 Pearl Street, in the rear yard and placed him under arrest without incident.
 
It was determined that the two males had been involved in an argument earlier in the day. The altercation later escalated and defendant Cruz stabbed the victim. The victim suffered a severe laceration and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. The victim is in stable condition. 
 
Defendant Cruz is charged with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, and Assault 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Monday, July 29, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
