Sound Beach, NY, July 2013 – Legislator Sarah Anker joined the Sound Beach Civic Association at the organization’s annual Food Fair and Chinese auction on Sunday, July 28th. The event was held at the Sound Beach Fire House and featured music by local high school students and food and attended by more than a dozen local merchants and restaurants.

The event also celebrated this year’s recipients of the civic association’s college scholarship. Amanda DiSunno of Miller Place High School and Elizabeth Kidney of Rocky Point High School received $1000 scholarships for college tuition.

“We are very fortunate to have great community support for our graduating high school seniors,” said Legislator Anker. “A secondary education is becoming a necessity in today’s job market.  The Sound Beach Civic Association has helped relieve the financial strain of college tuition and has given our students the opportunity to succeed.”

This year marked the fifth anniversary of the civic association’s Food Fair and Chinese Auction. Proceeds from the event will go towards the association’s high school scholarship fund for next year. For more information, visit www.soundbeachcivic.org.
