Man Arrested for Bail Jumping with Assistance of Police K-9 Unit

The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a man that occurred on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 4:20 a.m. in Seaford.
 
According to Detectives, Officers were dispatched to investigate a call for a suspicious vehicle, a 1999 White Ford Econoline E350, in the vicinity of Island Channel Road in Wantagh. Officers observed the defendant, Angelo Santamaria, 45, of 1814 Green Way in Westbury, operating the 1999 Econoline when he swerved into oncoming traffic creating a substantial safety hazard while almost hitting a marked Police Vehicle. Officers attempted to initiate a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop, but the defendant refused to stop, parked his car and then fled on foot. Police set up a
perimeter and with the assistance of the K-9 unit were able to arrest the defendant in the vicinity of Cecilia Place without further incident. It was later determined that the defendant was driving with a suspended license.
 
Defendant Santamaria is charged with Bail Jumping in the 3rd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions, and the defendant has two open warrants, one in Nassau County and one in Suffolk County. He will be  arraigned on Monday, August 1, 2022 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
Defendant Santamaria was previously arrested on April 2, 2022 and was charged with Petit Larceny. He was released with no bail and received an appearance ticket for which he failed to appear for. Defendant Santamaria was previously arrested on May 8, 2022 and was charged with Grand Larceny. He was released, again, with no bail and received an appearance ticket for which he failed to appear for.
