First Squad Detectives report the arrests of three (3) men for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 8:22 p.m. in Roosevelt.
According to police, officers observed a 2016 black Honda Accord traveling Southbound on Wagner Avenue and failed to obey a stop sign at the intersection of East Clinton Avenue. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.
During the investigation three (3) handguns were recovered in the vehicle and the following subjects were arrested without incident:
Kaevon Edwards, 24, of 636 Davis Avenue, Uniondale
Michael Smallwood, 23, of 1650 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow
Dahquell Haskin, 22, of 85 Union Street, Freeport
The defendants are charged with two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm and two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4 th Degree. Defendant Edwards has an additional charge of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3 rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4 th Degree. Defendant Haskin has an additional charge of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3 rd Degree.
They will be arraigned on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at First District Court, Hempstead.
Defendant Haskin has a previous conviction of Criminal Possession of a Firearm for
an incident that occurred on May 16, 2020. Haskin was arrested on October 21, 2021 for
Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2 nd Degree, two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a
Weapon 3 rd Degree and Possession of a Forged Instrument. He was released with no bail
and was fitted with an ankle bracelet by Nassau County Probation.
