AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Huntington last night.

Huntington, NY - August 5th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Huntington last night.

Richard Wright was walking northbound across Jericho Turnpike, west of Manor Road, when he was struck by a vehicle that was possibly travelling eastbound on Jericho Turnpike.

Wright, 31, of Huntington, was airlifted by a Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is listed in serious condition with a broken leg, broken hip and head injuries.

The vehicle, which may have been gray in color, fled the scene. Detectives believe the vehicle may have front end damage.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
