Woodbury, NY - August 6, 2013 - Pet Peeves, Inc. one of Long Island's premier animal advocacy organizations has announced that it will collect donations of pet food as part of their Dog Days of Summer fundraising event on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

All of the donations received at the event will be presented to Long Island Cares, Inc. to support their newly renamed Baxter's Pet Pantry, which provides pet food and supplies to families in need of assistance in an effort keep family pets at home especially in times of need.

Since 2009, Long Island Cares' pet pantry has distributed nearly 400,000 pounds of pet food and supplies through it's network of 580 community-based member agencies, and through it's own First Stop Pantry locations in Hauppauge, Freeport and Lindenhurst. All of the food, toys and supplies have been donated by major pet food manufacturers and distributors including all PETCO stores on Long Island.

"Baxter's Pet Pantry provides free pet food to families and veterans in need, and initial food support for people that adopt dogs or cats from local no-kill animal shelters," said Paule Pachter, Executive Director of Long Island Cares, Inc.

"Our focus is to provide the food and supplies to families who visit local pantries because of a need. If the family is hungry then too, most likely is their pet. Pets are part of the family and our goal is to support families and keep them together." There's no reason that people should place their pets in shelters if they can't afford to purchase pet food."
