As Ana Aguirre, 32, of Centereach waited for her Long Island Rail Road train at Penn Station on Wednesday morning, she went into labor, and MTA police officers rushed to her side.

Aguirre, who was due any day, was not feeling well that morning, but had headed into Manhattan for an appointment.  As she was heading back home, she went into labor near Track 20.

“When I was returning, the pain got much worse,” said Aguirre to New York Daily News. “I had already bought the train ticket and was waiting for the train. Then the pain got stronger.”

MTA officers Joseph Cona and Vinay Hathiramani carried Aguirre into the police office, where paramedics from St. Luke’s Hospital were waiting.  Officers Melissa DeFrancesco and Burt Silva also helped with the delivery.

At 10:04 a.m. in the police office in Penn Station, Aguirre gave birth to a boy weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces, whom she named Oscar.  He is Aguirre’s fourth child, and he joins an 11 year old sister, and two brothers, ages 6 and 4.

“It was awesome,” said DeFrancesco of the delivery.

After the delivery, Aguirre was brought to Bellevue Hospital.  According to reports, both mother and son are doing well.
