NCPD: Bayshore Man Stands Accused of Driving Drunk with 13-Year-Old in Vehicle

The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Bayshore man for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 1:29 AM in Mineola. 
 
According to Police, while on patrol Officers observed a black 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Jericho Turnpike and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law Stop near the intersection of Jay Court. During the investigation, Officers observed the operator of the vehicle, defendant Carlos Palaguachi, 51, of 1605 North Thompson Drive to have slightly slurred speech and the smell of alcohol emanating from his breath. 
 
A Standardized Field Sobriety Test was conducted resulting in positive results and defendant Carolos Palaguachi was placed under arrest without incident. The front seat passenger, a 13-year-old male juvenile was released into the custody of a family member that responded to scene. 
 
Defendant Carlos Palaguachi is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra’s Law, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two counts of Driving While Intoxicated and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Infractions. Defendant Carlos Palaguachi will be arraigned on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
