AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Active Search for Missing Boater, Damaged Vessel Recovered in Great South Bay

Suffolk County Police and the United States Coast Guard are actively searching for a boater reported missing last night whose damaged vessel was recovered early this morning.

Detectives believe the boater was involved in a boating accident. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

Lindenhurst, NY - August 14, 2016 - Suffolk County Police and the United States Coast Guard are actively searching for a boater reported missing last night whose damaged vessel was recovered early this morning.

Andrew Weis left Gilgo Beach aboard his 13-foot boat in the Great South Bay on August 13 at approximately 5:30 p.m. with an intended destination of Lindenhurst. Weis, 48, of Lindenhurst, never reached his destination.

Weis’ boat was recovered this morning in the Great South Bay off Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst at approximately 7:30 a.m. on August 14.

Based on damage to the boat, detectives believe Weis was involved in a boating accident.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
