5 Fire Departments Respond to House Fire in South Hempstead

The Arson Bomb Squad reports the details of a residential house fire that occurred on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at 5:35 a.m. in South Hempstead.

According to Detectives, first precinct officers responded to a call for a house fire located at 480 McDermott Rd. Upon arrival, police observed heavy smoke coming from inside the home. The premise was deemed unoccupied.

The South Hempstead Fire Department with assistance from the Baldwin Fire Department, Rockville Centre Fire Department, Hempstead Fire Department and West Hempstead Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire that caused damage to one bedroom inside of the home. 

One fireman sustained a minor laceration to his right middle finger and was treated and released by Rockville Centre Fire Department. Nassau County Fire Marshall were on scene.

The fire is deemed non-suspicious at this time and is under investigation.
