A Day of Rain Gives Way To a Night of Music and Community Service

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  16. August 2013

August 15, 2013 - Nesconset, NY - Suffolk County Legislator John M. Kennedy, Jr., Minority Leader of the Suffolk County Legislature and the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce continued their 2013 Free Summer Concert Series Tuesday night with “Just Groovin’” playing the best dance songs from the 1970s to the present. As the rainy day turned in to a clear night, over 250 music lovers turned out to hear their favorite dance songs and classic rock ballads. This year has featured the largest Concert Series to date and has presented such musical acts as “45 RPM”, “Minute by Minute”, “That 70s Band”, and “Songs in the Attic” who kicked off this year’s wonderful series.

Legislator Kennedy eagerly participated in the events at the concert. In addition to his Master of Ceremony duties, he collected food for Long Island residents in need on behalf of Long Island Cares, while he danced to the fabulous tunes that were played at the concert.

Furthermore, Green Homes in Smithtown attended the concert to promote sustainable living. While educating concertgoers about making their homes more energy efficient, they gave out biodegradable pens and penholders, and informed the attendees how homeowners can make their homes more energy-efficient. County residents can sign up to get their homes evaluated and to find out how they can promote a cleaner environment. If you want to find out more, you can contact the Smithtown Planning Department at 631-360-7540 or visit their website at longislandgreenhomes.org.

Legislator Kennedy would like to thank all those who have worked tirelessly to make this a safe and exciting concert series. The series would not be so successful without the efforts of Ron Schneider and his men and women from the Auxiliary Police and the Nesconset Fire Department. Legislator Kennedy would also like to thank the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce led by Gina Coletti, Norma Dispenza and Jim Delahanty. We are confident that these organizations will continue to help us make this another exciting summer concert series.

Be sure to attend the next show featuring “That 70s Band”. Long Island Cares will also be there to collect more donations for Long Island residents who are in need. The concert is on August 20, and it will surely be a great show as we continue the 2013 Nesconset Free Summer Concert Series.
