Nassau Police Officer Saves Life of Man Attempting Suicide in Oceanside, According to Reports
Oceanside, NY - August 16, 2017 - The Fourth Precinct reports the details of an attempted suicide that occurred in Oceanside on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 12:49 A.M.
Fourth and First Precinct police officers responded to a 911 call for a male threatening to jump off of the Atlantic Avenue/Brower Avenue Bridge.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers observed a male holding onto the lower portion of the bridge with a jumper cable cord wrapped around his neck. The male then let go of the bridge and was hanging over the water. The male became unconscious and fell into the water.
A police officer jumped into the water after him, pulled him to shore and administered CPR. Nassau County Police Ambulance transported the aided to a local hospital, where he was reported to be conscious and breathing.
The police officer, who ingested salt water and suffered exhaustion from the rescue swimming, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
