Massapequa Coast Becomes First LI Team to Play in Little League World Series in Over 40 Years

Local boys will play their first game in Williamsport, PA on Friday night.

The Massapequa Coast Little League team has made it to the show. The team clinched a spot in the Little League World Series on Friday when it beat the Toms River East team from New Jersey 4-0. According to a story in the New York Post, the team Massapequa Coast’s Joey Lionetti pitched a no-hitter to become the first team since 1978 to make it to the series.

 

The hometown team will play on Friday, August 19 at 7pm broadcast on ESPN. The Little League World Series will take place in Williamsport, PA.

 

The Massapequa Coast won the Metro Region with a record of 14-1.

 

The Town of Oyster Bay is hosting a watch party of the first game for residents from John Burns Park, on the fields where the 12-year-olds play at home.

 

“We are so proud of our hometown champions and congratulate them on earning a place in the World Series in Williamsport after winning the Metro Region Championships last week,” said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino.
