Mastic Beach Zombie Home Destroyed

Written by Lon Cohen  |  20. August 2022

This month, Brookhaven Town demolished a zombie home at 11 Maywood Drive in Mastic Beach. The house, which had been vacant for many years, was the source of numerous resident complaints. It was seized by Suffolk County as a property tax forfeiture.

An Inter-Municipal Agreement (IMA) was established between the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk County for the demolition and removal of the debris. The property will remain vacant and preserved as open space.

“Hamlet by hamlet and block by block, we have succeeded in eliminating blighted vacant structures, whether by demolition or revitalization,” said Councilman Dan Panico. “In Brookhaven we are winning the war on suburban blight.”
