Suffolk Legislator Sanin Partners with Local Labor Unions, Nonprofits, Community Members to Donate Over 1,100 Backpacks to Families in Need

Legislator Sanin and staff donate 105 backpacks to Long Island Head Start in Huntington Station.

Suffolk County Legislator Rebecca Sanin, in a significant community outreach initiative, has partnered with the New York State Laborers' Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET), Laborers Local 66, the Knowledge Project, and generous community members from across the 16th Legislative District to provide over 1,100 backpacks filled with school supplies to children across Suffolk County.

This generous donation underscores Legislator Sanin’s commitment to supporting educational resources for families in need.

The backpacks and essential school supplies have been distributed as follows:

  • 117 backpacks to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, to be distributed to children and families in need across Suffolk County.
  • 105 backpacks to Long Island Head Start, to support students in Head Start programs in the Town of Huntington.
  • 505 backpacks to Helping Hands Rescue Mission, to be distributed to families at Huntington Assembly of God Church from August 19 to August 22. For more information on how to receive a backpack, contact Helping Hands at (631) 351-6996 or kimberlygambino@hhrm.org
  • 390 backpacks to the district 1 Youth Advisory Board, with distribution at Iglesia La Luz Del Mundo on August 24 from 10 AM to 2 PM. Distribution is first-come, first-serve, with a limit of 3 backpacks per family.
