Smithtown, NY - August 19, 2013 - On exhibit at Art in the Alcove at the Suffolk County Legislature’s William Rogers building is a work by Nell Rae Fitz, who and lives in Bay Shore. Growing up on Long Island Nell has always been surrounded by the ocean which has become the motivating factor in her work of art, “High Tide.” “The great expanse of our shoreline has brought serenity, inner peace and a sense of calmness as I look out at the ocean,” stated Nell Rae Fitz. ”While many of us on Long Island have also experienced the fierce nature of the sea, especially last fall during Storm Sandy, it is the peace that one receives from the ocean that keeps us all going back to the shore,” Nell added.
“High tide” was first exhibited at the Dorsky Museum in New Paltz, New York, where Nell received a Bachelor of Fine Arts/Ceramics Degree from SUNY New Paltz. The artist recommends that viewers take some quite time to look into the horizon she has created with hand thrown tiles and feel the serenity of the shoreline on Long Island. Nell made the structure holding the tiles from driftwood found at local beaches.
