Seven People Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

The Suffolk County Police Department, assisted by the New York State Police, arrested seven motorists during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue. One of the motorists was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a felony offense, for having an 11-month-old child in the vehicle.

Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway Patrol Bureau conducted a joint operation Sobriety Checkpoint with New York State Troopers at the intersection of Waverly Avenue and Sunrise Highway North Service Road. The checkpoint was part of an ongoing enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving. A total of 400 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

New York State Police charged Gloria Torres Lema, 28, of 733 Station Road, Bellport, with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) for having an 11-month-old child in the vehicle at the time. She was given an appearance ticket to be arraigned at a future date.

Additionally, they charged Paul Bartoli, 26, of 58 Lambeth St., Holbrook, with Driving While Ability Impaired. He was given an appearance ticket to be arraigned at a future date.

Suffolk County Police charged the following people with Driving While Intoxicated:

  • James Morris, 59, of 3 Calico Tree Road, Hauppauge
  • James Rutigliano, 55, of 192 Waldo St., Copiague
  • Michelle Mainbourg, 52, of 16 Marlene Drive, Sayville
  • Henry Ford, 38, of 159 Starlight Walk, Holbrook
  • Amanda Smigovsky, 33, of 29 Buttercup Drive, Bohemia

The five arrestees will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 20.

A criminal charge is an accusation.  A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
