Greenport's Christopher North Sworn In as Student Trustee at Suffolk County Community College

Selden, NY - August 22, 2016 - Greenport's Christopher North was sworn in by Suffolk County Sr. Deputy County Clerk Anna Currella, as Suffolk County Community College's student trustee for the 2016 - 2017 academic year at the August 18 Board of Trustees regular meeting.

North was congratulated by the chair of the Suffolk County Board of Trustees Theresa Sanders and Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Shaun L. McKay.

The student trustee is one of 10 members of the Suffolk County Community College Board of Trustees and the Suffolk Community College (SCC) Association Board of Directors.

The Board of Trustees is charged with the overall responsibility of governing the college through policy development, long-range planning, and fiscal management.

The SCC Association Board of Directors has responsibility for managing, controlling, and directing the business affairs, activities, and policies of the SCC Association.

The student trustee is elected each year in a general election held during the spring semester. To be eligible to run for student trustee, a student must:

  •     be a matriculated student at Suffolk County Community College
  •     be in good academic standing
  •     have completed at least 12 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.5
