Where To Go Whale Watching Near Nassau County

The East End has some amazing whale watching excursions. But if you live in Nassau County or Western Suffolk and are looking for an opportunity to see these beautiful creatures of the sea a little closer to home, here are two options.

American Princess runs 4-hour Whale Watching and Dolphin Adventure Cruises through November 3 departing from Riis Landing in Rockaway, Queens. A naturalist on board will teach you about the local marine life as the boat cruises past the Marine Parkway Bridge, toward Ambrose Channel and the entrance to New York Harbor. Bring your camera and binoculars as you search for humpback whales, peregrine falcons, gannets, bottlenose dolphins and other wildlife. Right on Freeport's famous Nautical Mile is Captain Lou Freeport which runs 4-hour Whale, Dolphin & Bird Tours on the Atlantic Pearl throughout the summer and fall when migration patterns bring whales to the New York coast. The captain and crew will share their knowledge about Long Island wildlife as you explore the best spots for viewing whales, dolphins and birds.
