Written by Chris Boyle  |  22. August 2024

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is excited to announce a special partnership with Long Island University to host “Nassau Day” at the upcoming LIU Sharks football game on September 14th, in honor of Nassau County’s 125th Anniversary. This milestone event is a unique opportunity for Nassau County residents to come together and support the only Division 1 football team in the county.

Nassau Day is a celebration of our local community and its rich history but also an invitation for families, friends, and football fans to cheer on the Sharks as they begin their season. We encourage all residents to come out to the LIU’s Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville on September 14th at 12 pm, as the LIU Sharks face off against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.

In recognition of the 125th anniversary, Nassau County will be providing free tickets to youth football leagues and organizations throughout the county. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of athletes and offer them a chance to experience the excitement of Division 1 football up close.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman highlighted the significance of this event, stating, “Supporting Long Island University Football also has economic benefit as big time college football generates revenue which helps local businesses and increases the economic base which keep property taxes down.”

“On behalf of Long Island University, I would like to thank County Executive Bruce Blakeman for including LIU in the Nassau Day celebration. We are proud to be the home of Nassau County’s only Division I collegiate football program.  LIU has 38 NCAA Division I sports teams and our athletes are champions both on and off the field. As a nationally recognized university in the top 7% for high research activity, we are honored to stand alongside Nassau County in celebrating its rich history and bright future." Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, President Long Island University

“We are thrilled to see an uptick in local businesses across Nassau County,” said Frank Camarano, President of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce. “As we celebrate Nassau County’s 125th anniversary, we couldn’t be more excited to mark the first Nassau Day at LIU Football. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring our community together and show our support for the local businesses that make our county so special.”
