FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 1030 AM EDT THIS MORNING * WHAT...Ongoing flooding caused by excessive rainfall. * WHERE...A portion of southeast New York, including the following county, Suffolk. * WHEN...Until 1030 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Expect many areas of standing water. Numerous basements and several ground level structures remain flooded. Isolated sinkholes are possible. In addition, flooding along creeks, streams, ponds, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 438 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Flooding is ongoing in the warned area. Between 6 and 10 inches of rain have fallen. - Flooding impacts will continue into the morning commute, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... SCPD are investigating a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Central Islip.

Central Islip, NY - August 23, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Central Islip on Wednesday, August 22.
 
A teenage girl was crossing Wheeler Road near Central Islip High School when she was struck by a 2015 Nissan Rogue, heading southbound on Wheeler Road at approximately 8 p.m.
 
The girl, 13, of Islandia, was transported by Central Islip Rescue to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Nissan, Luis Alberto Curranza Caspa, 47, of Central Islip remained at the scene and was not injured.
 
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352.
