Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison recently presided over the 185th Suffolk County Police Academy graduation ceremony in Brentwood.
The 74 recruits completed 31 weeks of academy training with more than 1,000 hours of instruction including law, emergency medical training, domestic violence, anti-bias training, mental illness, cultural diversity and terrorism.
Of the 64 SCPD recruits, 23 have prior law enforcement experience, seven are military veterans, and eight are fluent Spanish speakers. In addition to the Suffolk County Police recruits, eight will head to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and two to Stony Brook University Police.
