Point Lookout, NY - August 24, 2016 - The Marine Bureau reports the details of a boating accident that occurred in Point Lookout on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 5:45 P.M.

According to police, a 21 foot vessel, with two occupants on board, struck a 14 foot vessel, with three adults and three children (ages 1, 3, 10) on board, while in Sloop Channel Jones Inlet, caused by impaired vision from sun glare. 

The smaller boat took on water forcing all six occupants, who were wearing life jackets, into the water.  The occupants of the 21 foot boat assisted all six people out of the water onto their boat.  Marine 6 responded to the scene and transferred the six people to the U.S. Coast Guard Station Jones Beach to conduct their investigation.  The 14 foot vessel sank and was not recoverable.

No injuries were reported.

Police report no apparent criminality.  A vessel inspection was performed and the operator of the 21 foot vessel was issued a summons for no fire extinguisher.
