Police: Amityville Bicyclist Killed After Being Struck by Landscaping Truck

A man was riding his bicycle on Albany Avenue when he was struck by a landscaping truck at the intersection of Sunrise Highway.

Amityville, NY - August 25, 2017 - Suffolk County Police First Squad Detectives are investigating a crash that killed a bicyclist in Amityville, New York on Thursday, August 24, 2017.
 
Eulogio Rodriguez, 58, of Copiague was riding his bicycle northbound on Albany Avenue when he was struck by a landscaping truck at the intersection of Sunrise Highway at approximately 4:10 p.m. The driver of the truck, Mario Lazo, 38, of Brentwood, New York made a left turn onto eastbound Sunrise Highway from southbound on Albany Avenue when the crash occurred.
 
The bicyclist, whose identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Lazo and a male passenger in the truck were not injured.
 
The truck was inspected for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
