The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Precipitation will begin as snow, then change to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain during the Thursday morning commute. The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that there will be overnight closures affecting both directions of the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) in the Village of North Hills, Nassau County on Tuesday, August 29, between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting, to facilitate the installation of new overhead signs.

  • All eastbound lanes will be detoured onto the South Service Road between Exit 34 (New Hyde Park Road) and Exit 36 (Searingtown Road).
  • The westbound HOV lane will be closed from Exit 36 to Exit 34.

The Northern State Parkway will be available as an alternate route.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones.  Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
