SCPD: Man and Woman Arrested in Connection with Shooting at Bellport Homes
Suffolk County Police, with the assistance from U.S. Marshals Service, today arrested two people in connection to shots fired at residences in Bellport earlier this month.
Shots were fired into an occupied residence on Atlantic Ave. in Bellport on August 2 at approximately 11:20 p.m. Several hours later, Fifth Precinct police officers, who were on patrol on Atlantic Ave., heard multiple shots at approximately 2:30 a.m. The officers observed a 2021 Kia driving away from the area.
It was determined that the shots were fired into another residence on Atlantic Ave. in Bellport. The unoccupied Kia was later located in a wooded area following a motor vehicle crash. The owner, Jahvara Rich, reported that her Kia had been stolen.
Following an investigation, Fifth Squad detectives charged Tarik Rountree, 27, of Patchogue, with two counts of Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree for the shootings.
Rountree’s acquaintance, Jahvara Rich, 31, of Patchogue, was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident 3rd Degree for reporting her vehicle had been stolen.
Rountree will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on August 26. Rich was released on a desk appearance ticket.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
