Legislator Anker Advises Residents of FEMA Claims Deadline for Hurricane Sandy

Those who incurred losses from the devastating storm between October 27th and November 6th, 2012, have until September 15th, 2015, to submit a claim to be reviewed by FEMA.

Mount Sinai, NY - August 26, 2015 - Following information released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Friday, August 21st, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker is advising residents of the fast approaching deadline for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Those who incurred losses from the devastating storm between October 27th and November 6th, 2012, have until September 15th, 2015, to submit a claim to be reviewed by FEMA.

Policyholders can contact FEMA the following ways:

  • Calling toll-free at 866-337-4262.
  • Email by downloading an application online and submitting it.
  • Fax by downloading an application online and submitting it to 202-646-7970.
  • For individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability using 711 or VRS, please call 1-866-337-4262.  For individuals using a TTY, please call 800-462-7585.

In addition, FEMA has launched a call center for a pilot National Flood Insurance Program. Those who have questions about their flood policy can call 1-800-621-3362, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (CST). A request for support form can also be downloaded from FEMA’s website, which can then be sent back via email or fax.

“I encourage residents to take note of this deadline and utilize the Federal Emergency Management Agency if they incurred losses,” said Legislator Anker. “It is also important for residents to be prepared for future emergencies. Agencies like FEMA, the Red Cross, and the Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management are excellent resources for emergency preparedness information.”
