Nassau Police Officer Injured After Shooting Attacking Pit Bull

The Seventh Squad reports the details of an Unusual Incident that occurred in Wantagh.
 
According to Detectives, Police Officers responded to a residence on Cherrywood Drive for a radio assignment of a suspicious person. Officer Daddino, who was first on scene, began speaking to the complainant who then lost containment of her dog.  The complainant’s dog, a pitbull, then charged in an attacking manner toward the officer.  
 
In fear of his safety the Officer in the process of retreating, fired three rounds from his service weapon, striking the dog, resulting in the dog to stop advancing. Officer Daddino fell backwards and struck his head on the pavement. He was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The complainant transported her dog to the veterinarian for treatment.   
 
The investigation is ongoing.
