AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. SCPD: Wyandanch Woman Arrested After Leaving Child in Unattended Vehicle

Shatera Williams, 24, left her 1-year-old son alone in a vehicle for 10 to 15 minutes while she was in Walmart, cops say.

SCPD arrested Shatera Williams of Wyandanch, 24, after she left her 1-year-old son unattended in a car while shopping on Saturday, August 26.

Islandia, NY - August 28, 2017 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Wyandanch woman after she left her 1-year-old son unattended in a car while shopping in an Islandia, New York store on Saturday, August 26, 2017.
 
A Fourth Precinct police officer responded to the parking lot of Walmart, located at 1850 Veterans Memorial Highway, at approximately 2:15 p.m., after a person reported that a child was left unattended in a 2015 Toyota Camry parked in the store’s fire zone.
 
When the child’s mother, Shatera Williams, 24, Wyandanch, New York, returned to the car, she was arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The child was alone in the car for 10 to 15 minutes. The child was placed in the custody of a relative.
 
Williams will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 27, 2017.
 
A notification was made to Suffolk County Child Protective Services.
