Greenport, NY - August 29, 2014 - Buses will replace weekday trains between Greenport and Ronkonkoma during off-peak, midday hours beginning next Tuesday, September 2 and continuing through Friday, November 14 to allow the LIRR to renew grade crossings and replace track ties along the route.
Railroad crews will be replacing wood ties from Ronkonkoma to Riverhead and renewing grade crossings at Yaphank-Moriches Road and Bellport Avenue, both in Yaphank, Love Lane in Mattituck and Mill Road crossing in Riverhead. This work is part of a $50 million federally funded Annual State of Good Repair Track Program.
As a result, the single track between Ronkonkoma and Greenport will be out of service weekdays from 9 AM until 3:50 p.m. requiring cancelation of two westbound trains and two eastbound trains. Instead, customers will board buses or vans at the following adjusted departure times:
Eastbound from Ronkonkoma
The 10:42 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma to Greenport is cancelled. Instead, customers will board a bus scheduled to leave Ronkonkoma at 10:47 a.m., Medford at 10:58 a.m., Yaphank at 11:06 a.m., Riverhead at 11:32 a.m., Mattituck at 11:48 a.m., and Southold at 12:02 p.m., arriving in Greenport at 12:12 p.m.
The 2:41 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma to Riverhead is cancelled. Instead, customers will board a bus scheduled to leave Ronkonkoma at 2:47 p.m., Medford at 2:58 p.m., Yaphank at 3:06 p.m., arriving at Riverhead at 3:32 p.m.
Westbound from Riverhead and Greenport
The 9:21 a.m. train from Riverhead to Ronkonkoma is cancelled. Instead, customers will board a bus seven minutes earlier than normal train time, departing Riverhead at 9:14 a.m., stopping at Yaphank at 9:40 a.m., Medford at 9:49 a.m., arriving at Ronkonkoma at 10:01 a.m. where they will board a train to continue their trip west.
The 12:42 p.m. train from Greenport to Ronkonkoma is cancelled. Instead, customers will board a bus ten minutes earlier than normal train time, departing Greenport at 12:32 p.m. and making stops at Southold at 12:43 p.m., Mattituck at 12:57 p.m., Riverhead at 1:14 p.m., Yaphank at 1:40 p.m., Medford at 1:49 p.m. and Ronkonkoma at 2:07 p.m. where they will board a train to continue their trip west.
