AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. 5 Arrested in Connection to Heroin, Weapons and Marijuana Near a Child Day Care Center

The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of five individuals, which occurred on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 7:35 p.m. in Merrick.

Merrick, NY - August 31, 2016 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of five individuals, which occurred on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 7:35 p.m. in Merrick.

According to Narcotic/Vice Squad detectives, Nassau County Police received numerous complaints involving drug activity being conducted at a residence in Merrick that is located in close proximity to a child day care center.  Narcotic/Vice Bureau detectives initiated an extensive investigation which concluded with the execution of a legal search warrant on August 30, 2016 resulting in the recovery of 41 grams of raw heroin, (which is equivalent to 2000 bags), a loaded 9mm pistol,  marijuana, and the arrest of the following individuals;

Richard R. Reid, 30,  Sterling L. Simonee, 20,  Shaina M. Thompson, 20,  and Constance K. Buonauro, 48,  all of which are residents of the same home in Merrick. There was also a 3 year old child in the home during the investigation.

The fifth defendant, Christina A. Kaempf, 34 of Bellmore, was arrested after leaving the premise at which time she was in possession of heroin. 

Reid is charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Buonauro is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree.

Thompson is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Simonee is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree.

Kaempf is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree.

All the defendants were arraigned on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
