Wyandanch Man Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Opening Fire Inside Crowded Gym

Written by Chris Boyle  |  02. September 2022

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that 19-year-old Noah Haynes was sentenced to three years in prison and three years of post-release supervision after he pleaded guilty in May to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

“This defendant decided that violence was the best way to win a dispute with his victim and he acted on his violent impulse in a crowded public area which put others in danger,” said Tierney. “This type of behavior will not be tolerated in Suffolk County and the consequence of his reckless actions is upstate prison time.”

According to the investigation and the defendant’s own admission, on December 21, 2021, the defendant got into an altercation with the 17-year-old victim and then slashed him on the neck with a sharp object inside the LA Fitness gym located at Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon. While inside the crowded gym, Haynes pulled out a loaded Glock .380 caliber firearm. Numerous witnesses, including a retired NYPD Detective, wrestled Haynes to the ground.  Haynes’ gun was pushed down so that he could not shoot at any of the people in the gym and the loaded firearm, which fired a single shot toward the ground as it was being wrestled away from him, was ultimately removed from his hand.

The gun was turned over to members of the Suffolk County Police Department. Haynes was also found with a magazine that had twelve rounds inside.

In addition to the sentence related to the Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon charge, Haynes also received an indeterminate sentence of one to three years of incarceration for also pleading guilty to Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree. He was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Anthony S. Senft, Jr.  He was represented by Natasja Bellinger, Esq.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Pamela J. Bloomfield the Major Crimes Bureau.
