SCPD: Motorcyclist Killed in Huntington Station Crash After Driving Through Red Light

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Huntington Station.
 
Gerson Mendez-Cruz was operating a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Jericho Turnpike when he rode through a red light at the intersection of Melville Road and collided with an Uber. The Uber, a 2018 Ford, had been travelling northbound on Melville Road.
 
Mendez-Cruz, 20, of Greenlawn, was transported to Huntington Hospital in serious condition, and was later pronounced dead. A 22-year-old female passenger in the Uber was transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Uber driver, Felix Perez, 24, of Levittown, was not injured.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
