Huntington Beach Community Association Beach Closed to Bathing, 5 Additional Beaches Remain Closed

Huntington, NY - September 2, 2016 - Huntington Beach Community Association Beach in Huntington is closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria at levels that are in excess of acceptable criteria.

Five additional beaches remain closed due to unacceptable levels of bacteria:
  • Tanner Park Beach in Copiague
  • Copiague Harbor Property Owners’ Association Beach
  • Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in Islip
  • Peconic Dunes County Park (Lake) in Southold
  • Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore
According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
