Sweet Charlie’s, an ice cream shop that serves what it calls “Thai-inspired” rolled ice cream and Belgian waffles, opened in New Hyde Park this August.
The ice cream parlor allows customers to make their own ice cream creations, according to the Philadelphia-based chain’s website. Customers start with a base of ice cream, yogurt, or even a vegan base.
Ingredients are then added to create special flavors like Monkey See, Monkey Doo, which is fresh banana and Nutella; Love Park made of chocolate and peanut butter pretzels; Namaste, which includes fresh strawberry and NY cheesecake bits; and S’more Please, made from chocolate, graham cracker, and torched marshmallow.

The ice cream is then chilled on a frozen surface and scraped into a roll, before adding free toppings like fruit, chocolate chips, or whipped cream. The ice cream can be served in a cup, in a donut, or on a Belgian waffle.
Samantha M. of New Hyde Park raved on Yelp about the new ice cream shop.
“I was super excited to see a business open up during the pandemic, and of course I wanted to come down and support,” she wrote. “Sweet Charlie's is a rolled ice cream place that offers a variety of options. You can put it in a small cup or a large cup, on a donut, as a milkshake, or on a gourmet waffle. They have different cool flavors to choose from. I got the wonderfilled ice cream on a donut topped with fruity pebbles. It was so good!”
