Seven Motorists Arrested and One Vehicle Seized During an Overnight Sobriety Checkpoint

The Suffolk County Police Department, assisted by the New York State Police and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, arrested seven motorists and seized one vehicle during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue. The multi-agency checkpoint is part of an ongoing enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving during the Labor Day weekend.  

Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway Patrol Bureau conducted a joint operation Sobriety Checkpoint with New York State Troopers and Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs at the parking lot located at 120 South Sunrise Service Road. A total of 392 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following people were arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated:

  • Richard Byron Ethan, 24, of 14 Lovers Lane, Medford
  • Thomas Dolan, 32, of 54 Sycamore St., Patchogue
  • Douglas Weiss, 26, of 84 Inlet View Path, East Moriches

The following person was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs:

  • Michael Vitale, 34, of 7 Abets Creek Path, East Patchogue

The following people were arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by the Combined Influence of Drugs and Alcohol:

  • Warren Carl Booker III, 30, of 45 Sunrise Ave., Riverhead. Additionally, his vehicle was seized due to a prior conviction of DWI.
  • Jonathan Rojas, 26, of 114 East Alhambra Ave., Lindenhurst. He was additionally charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree for possessing cocaine and psilocybin.

The above arrestees will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 3.

Additionally, Estrella Juan Pesantez, 40, of 70 Mastic Blvd., Mastic, was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and was given an appearance ticket to be arraigned in court on a future date.

A criminal charge is an accusation.  A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
