The Suffolk County Police Department is mourning the loss of active duty canine Dallas V, a 6-year old German Shepherd that died from a sudden illness recently.
Dallas V joined the SCPD in 2016, training with handler Kenneth Michaels, and was named to honor the lives of five Dallas area police officers who were shot and killed in an ambush in July 2016.
In addition to narcotics detection and suspect tracking, Dallas V also spent time visiting schools and attending community events to showcase the skills canines possess and the asset they provide to law enforcement.
“Dallas was different; he was very special and exemplified the qualities, loyalty and bravery of the five officers that gave their lives on that fateful day July 7, 2016,” Officer Michaels said of his partner.
