AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT EDT THURSDAY NIGHT The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Thursday night. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Fine Particulates. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Police Sustain Injuries when Responding to 911 Call in Hewlett

Officers responded to a 911 call for an irate male causing a disturbance in Hewlett and become injured.

The Fourth Squad reports on the arrest of a Rockville Centre man for the Assault on a Police Officer that occurred on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 9:40 am in Hewlett.
 
According to Detectives, Fourth Precinct Officers responded to a 911 call for an irate male causing a disturbance at 1470 Hewlett Avenue. Officers attempted to restrain the male who refused verbal commands and became physically resistant.
 
Matthew Berman, 24, of 250 North Village Avenue was then placed under arrest. Officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant was violent and combative while resisting arrest. The Officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The defendant was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
 
Defendant Berman is charged with Assault in the 2nd degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
