Pistol-Packing Suspect Flees Franklin Square Traffic Stop, Crashes and is Placed Under Arrest

The Fifth Squad reports an Arrest that occurred on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 5:02pm in Franklin Square.
 
According to Detectives, Officers conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop at Hempstead Turnpike and Scherer Boulevard of a Hyundai Sonata occupied by one male subject. As Officers approached, the vehicle fled southbound and collided into several parked vehicles in front of 207 Scherer Boulevard.  
 
Defendant Robert Shivers, 18, of 100 Terrace Avenue, Hempstead attempted to flee the scene on foot however due to the injuries sustained in the collision he was unable to. After a brief struggle, the defendant was taken into custody and transported to a local area hospital for treatment of his injuries. 
 
Subsequent to the investigation, Officers recovered a loaded Ruger 57 semi-automatic handgun with six rounds of ammunition from the vehicle. No further injuries were reported.
 
Defendant Robert Shivers is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest and multiple VTL violations.  He will be arraigned when medically practical.
