AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Officers To Be Recognized for Rescuing 18-Month-Old Baby

Fifth Precinct officers to be honored by Islip Town Board.

Islip, NY - September 9, 2014 - Suffolk County Fifth Precinct Police Officers Christopher D'Amico and Joseph Cascone will be recognized by the Islip Town Board for rescuing a baby girl found floating in a family friend’s pool in Sayville.

Suffolk County Police Officers Christopher D'Amico and Joseph Cascone responded to Chester Road on July 22 after an 18-month-old girl was found unresponsive in an inground pool.  The officers performed CPR on the girl who then began to breath. The toddler was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and then transferred in serious condition to Stony Brook University Hospital.  Since the incident, the child’s condition has significantly improved and she is expected to make a full recovery.

Nine members of the Community Ambulance Company and a dispatcher from the Bayport Fire Department who were involved in the rescue efforts will also be honored.

The Islip Town Board will hold a recognition ceremony before its town meeting on September 9 at 2 p.m. at the Islip Town Hall Board Room, located at 655 Main St., Islip.
