AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

MTA LIRR Schedules Public Hearing on Proposed Restoration of Weekend/Holiday Service on the LIRR’s West Hempstead Branch

West Hempstead, NY - September 9, 2014 - MTA Long Island Rail Road will hold a public hearing on a plan to restore weekend and holiday service on the West Hempstead Branch year-round on Monday, September 15 at Malverne Village Hall located at 99 Church Street in Malverne, N.Y. The public hearing will begin at 5 PM.

Under the proposal, the LIRR would restore weekend and holiday train service on the West Hempstead Branch, effective Saturday, November 22, 2014. Weekend/holiday trains would operate every two hours between West Hempstead and Penn Station/Atlantic Terminal with connecting service at Valley Stream and Jamaica Station. Currently, no trains operate on the branch on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Registration to speak will begin at 4:30 PM and remain open until 8 p.m. Oral testimony is limited to three (3) minutes for each speaker. To register in advance to speak at the hearing or for more information, please call 646-252-6777. The deadline to receive written comments is September 19, 2014. All comments will be transcribed and made part of the permanent record to be reviewed by the MTA Board.

By Rail: LIRR West Hempstead Branch to Malverne Station. Walk southwest on Hempstead Avenue. Turn left onto Church Street. Malverne Village Hall will be on the left. By Bus: N31/32.

Accessibilty
Malverne Village Hall is accessible to the mobility impaired. An interpreter for hearing impacted customers will be available upon advance request made no later than September 10.
