Hempstead, NY - Sepetember 11, 2014 - Third Squad detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man for two Robberies that occurred on September 10, 2014 at 6:20 am in Hempstead.

According to detectives, while on Greenwich Street near Jerusalem Avenue, walking to his bus stop on his way to work, the 26 year old male victim was approached by Ryeshawn Newson, 18, of Albemarle Ave, who asked the victim for a dollar. After complying, Newson demanded more money, punched the victim in the face and knocked him to the ground. Newson then withdrew a large knife, placed it up to the victim’s chest and took his remaining money and cell phone. The victim, who was able to flee from the scene, located a friend, used his cell phone and called his brother. He advised him of what had just transpired and told him not to use the same route to the bus stop. Despite his brothers warning, the 18 year old, while near the same location, was approached by Newson who withdrew his knife and threatened him. The victim, in fear of his safety, removed his wallet, threw it on the ground and fled the scene. The victim ran into a neighboring deli where the Hempstead Police were called.

Upon police arrival a description of Newson was obtained. He was located a short time later on Henry Street and placed under arrest without incident. The proceeds from the two Robberies were recovered from the defendant.
