AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. No-Cost Women’s Self-Defense Training Hosted by Legislator Anker and Suffolk County Police

On Thursday, September 14th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker will host a no-cost Women’s Self-Defense Training Program in conjunction with the Suffolk County Police Department and Long Island Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Mount Sinai, NY - September 12, 2017 - On Thursday, September 14th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker will host a FREE Women’s Self-Defense Training Program in conjunction with the Suffolk County Police Department and Long Island Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The event will be held at the Mt. Sinai Fire Department (746 Mount Sinai-Coram Rd, Mount Sinai, NY) from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Participants in this free training program will learn simple and effective self-defense tactics to increase confidence and the ability to protect yourself in a dangerous situation. This class will not only teach practical self-defense, but will also cover numerous ways to avoid and navigate dangerous situations.
