NCPD Arrest Man Who Set Shopping Cart of Items on Fire After Stealing Them

Jatinder Singh, 29, who is homeless, had stolen and set fire to a shopping cart full of merchandise from Five Below in North New Hyde Park, cops say.

Arson Bomb Squad Detectives report the arrest of a homeless male for an incident that occurred in North New Hyde Park.
 
According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a larceny that had just occurred and an active fire of a shopping cart full of items, in the side parking lot of Five Below, 697 Hillside Avenue. 
 
Upon arrival, officers observed a shopping cart on fire and were informed by employees from Five Below that a male subject had passed all points of purchase with merchandise from the store, making no attempt to pay for the items.
  
According to detectives, Jatinder Singh, 29, homeless, was observed on video, strike a match and light the shopping cart on fire before leaving the scene. 
 
After reviewing the video, responding officers searched the area and located Singh who was placed under arrest without incident.
 
During his arrest, Defendant Jatinder Singh was found to be responsible for the following other Arsons:
 
  • 9/10/22 at 1:47 am – Outlook Safety, 226-10 Jericho Turnpike, Bellerose Terrace, a dumpster set on fire caused damage to the unoccupied building at this location.
  • 9/10/20 at 2:55 am – G Resnick Realty, 249-02 Jericho Turnpike, Bellerose, potted flower pots set on fire caused damage to the canvass canopy at this location.
 
Defendant Jatinder is charged with Petit Larceny, Arson 5th Degree and two (2) counts of Arson 4th Degree. He was arraigned in First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
